What's Happening at Longacre Leadership Summer Camp ...

Even though summer is over, the Longacre Leadership staff is staying busy and making preparations for next year's summer camp. Here's what's been going on:
  • Former staff members and dear friends Brooks Miller and Anna Santini made the front page of The Patriot-News because of their success with their small, sustainable farm. Click here to read the article.
  • Program director Matthew Smith has joined Longacre Leadership on a full-time basis. Owner/director, and Matthew's mother, Susan Smith wrote a great blog post about Matt's decision.
  • The reunion for this past summer's farmers and staff is scheduled for Nov. 2-4 at the farm. Information was mailed out last month.
  • The calendar was mailed out two weeks ago. Thanks to Louis, Camilla and Anna for their hard work!
  • Priscilla had her calf on Oct. 3!

Here's some pretty exciting news to share: our summer camp has been named one of the Top 10 overnight camps in the United States on CampRatingz.com, and one of the Top 5 camps in the Northeast region!

We're very proud of this honor, and know we're doing something right when we've been rated so highly. Thank you to all who have left positive feedback about us on CampRatingz.com.

Our summer camp makes the local paper!

Longacre Leadership made the local newspaper recently. On Aug. 3, our summer camp students helped volunteers from Project MOVE (Millerstown Offering Volunteer Efforts) clean up and beautify the Millerstown PA square. Here's what was written:
The Millerstown square got “prettied up” Aug. 3 as campers from Longacre Leadership teamed with volunteers from Project Millerstown Offering Volunteer Efforts (MOVE).

The beautification project saw 17 campers and three staff members from the Newport-area summer camp work with seven volunteers from Project MOVE to clean up the Routes 22/322 underpass on Sunbury Street and scrape paint from a house on the square.

Other projects included stone sweeping in advance of the Aug. 6 Millerstown Firemen’s Carnival parade, weed pulling at the borough building and another home along South Market Street, and other duties.

The joint effort sprang from a meeting last year between Matthew Smith, Longacre Leadership program director, and Kathy Magill, Project MOVE coordinator. Project MOVE’s goals were in line with Longacre Leadership’s community service initiatives.

“It’s been great working up here. We’re happy to assist Project MOVE any way we can in beautifying the Millerstown square,” Smith said.
